Crowan Pottery bowl - with typical iron glaze decoration

Harry and May Davis met while working at the Leach Pottery in St Ives, and in 1946, after several years in Africa and South America, they set up their own pottery in an old mill at Crowan, near Camborne, Cornwall.

Here, until 1962, they produced superb functional stoneware and porcelain pottery of great strength and beauty, often decorated with iron oxide  brushwork as shown above.
